Four Killed in Reiger Park Gang Shootout, Gauteng Police Say

Anti-gang unit officers among the dead in ambush attack.

JOHANNESBURG — A gang-related ambush in Reiger Park (Boksburg, Gauteng) on Thursday evening left four people dead, including two members of the SAPS anti-gang unit and two civilians, police announced. The shooters targeted patrol vehicles near the Ekurhuleni taxi rank, opening fire with automatic weapons, a Gauteng police spokesperson said. Both anti-gang officers were fatally wounded in the exchange, and two passersby caught in the crossfire also died at the scene. No suspects have been publicly named yet, but Gauteng’s acting police commissioner vowed that “the full force of the law will descend on those responsible.” The attack has stirred outrage in Ekurhuleni’s city leadership, with Premier Panyaza Lesufi calling it an “act of war against police” (local media reports). Two survivors are being treated in hospital, and forensic teams continue to gather evidence. This shooting revives concerns about gang warfare targeting law enforcement in the region.
